The 1951 psychedelic cartoon Alice in Wonderland, arguably on of the best stories of all time, written by Lewis Carrol, will be retold in gloom by Tim Burton this year. Burton’s take on Alice in Wonderland will feature some of Hollywood’s big names such as Johnny Depp playing Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Anne Hathaway in her part as The White Queen, Crispin Glover will be The Knave of Hearts, and HBO’s In Treatment actress, Mia Wasikowska, will act as Alice.

The film will be an extension to Carroll’s original story. In Burton’s movie, 19 year-old Alice will return to Wonderland with no recollection of ever being there, after escaping a marriage proposal in front of a prissy rich society. Alice, the only one who can defeat the beast that guards The Red Card’s sanctuary, is lead back to Wonderland by The White Rabbit to help rid Wonderland of The Red Card’s evil. The movie is set to premier in theaters March 05, 2010.
